Types of Juicers

There are three types of juicing machines

  1. Centrifugal Juicers
  2. Masticating Juice Extractors
  3. Triturating Juice Machines

Centrifugal juicer engines have high RPM and could create heat. Masticating juice extractors spin at much lower rate and do not create heat. The cold process and low RPM is the reason behind “cold press” category which applies to both masticating and triturating juicers and additional definition of “Low RPM juicers.”

A masticating juice extractor machine presses fruits and vegetables between an augur and the housing. Triturating juice makers squeeze the produce between to spinning gears which allows the triturating machines to be built of metal completely instead of plastic parts. Those who are concerned about harmful chemicals in hard plastics, Triturating machines is a better choice.

Masticating juicer models could be horizontal or vertical. Horizontal models take a little more space on your counter-top than the vertical models.

To get the best juicer machine for you, you need to translate this information in a way that benefits you. One easy way to do this is to ask yourself a few  simple questions.

Are you planning to use your juicer machine to extract juice mostly from leafy greens or not?

If you plan to use leafy greens in your juice recipes 50% or more, you are better off with a masticating or triturating juicer that could squeeze and extract juice from the leaves. Centrifugal juicers work with a grinding blade that cannot extract juice from leafy vegetables effectively.

To give you, a simple visual, imagine and orange juice machine. You cut the orange and press it over the cone, the motor rotates the cone, and the orange is squeezed between the cone and your hand. Now imagine holding a bunch of spinach or kale and squeezing it over the same dome. You only make a mess and could hurt yourself.

Masticating or triturating juicer could squeeze the juice from your produce; they make an excellent vegetable juicer. Centrifugal juicers don’t.  You can read a more detail comparison at
